Question and Answer The Application Process

Step 1:The Applicant turns in a resume

Step 2: The Staffing Department whether the qualifications on the resume match the requirements for an open position The staffing Department reviews resumes received by mail, from the Resume Center and in the database All resumes received are scanned into the database

Step 3: If there is a match the Staffing Department sends a copy of the resume to the Hiring Manager If there is no match, the resume remains in the database for future searches. Step 4: The Hiring Manager determines whether the resume meets the requirements for the open position. If there is a match, the Hiring Manager schedules an interview with the applicant. Because the process is dependent on the current business needs, there is no way to determine if and when an individual will be called after turning in a resume. Types of Positions at Intel New Mexico 70% of all recruiting is for the Manufacturing Technician position. The other 30% consists of Engineering, Finance, Administration and Support (i.e. Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, Materials, Planning and Information Technology.) Creating a Resume for Intel "The problem with most resumes is not so much the form of them, although that's bad enough, it's deeper than that. It's that the people who write them aren't really in touch with who they are... what they have to offer. Their magnificence, if you will. Tell them not to rush into their resume right away. To sit back and take inventory first." Employment manager of a major U.S. Corporation as quoted by Tom Jackson in "The Perfect Resume." When writing a resume for Intel please consider the following: What position are you interested in? Put that in your objective and then tailor your resume towards that objective. What have I done in my past positions? Put your skills and experience in the resume. Do not assume that you will have the opportunity to add more information about yourself at the interview. Intel uses the resume to decide whether an applicant's qualifications match the job; if critical information is missing on the resume... there may never be an interview. Creating a Scannable Resume Resumes at Intel are read by electronic scanners. Interviewing at Intel Types of Interviews Phone Screen Serial Interviews Group Interviews Combination Behavioral Interviewing What exactly is Behavioral Interviewing? The basic premise behind behavioral interviewing is this: The most accurate predictor of future performance is past performance in a similar situation. It provides a more objective set of facts to make employment decisions than other interviewing methods. Traditional interview questions ask you general questions such as "Tell me about yourself." The process of behavioral interviewing is much more probing and works very differently. Important Points About Behavioral Interviewing Intel predetermines which skills are necessary for the job and then asks very pointed questions to determine it the candidate possesses those skills. To find out which skills Intel is seeking, talk with alumni, read the company literature carefully, and listen closely during Intel's information session. In the interview, your response needs to be specific and detailed. Talk about a particular situation that relates to the question, not a general one. Briefly describe the situation, what you did specifically, and the positive result or outcome.

Forming the answer is a three step process: 1.

Situation 2.

Action 3.

Result/outcome A typical interview would look something like this: The interviewee tells a story for a few minutes; the interviewer will pick apart the story to try to get at the specific behavior(s). The interviewer will probe further for more depth or detail such as "What were you thinking at that point?" or "Tell me more about your meeting with that person," or "Lead me through your decision process." Always listen carefully to the question, ask for clarification if necessary, and make sure you answer the question completely. Preparing for the Interview You interview perpetration should include identifying examples of situations where you have demonstrated the behaviors for Intel. Your resume will serve as a good guide when answering these questions. Refresh your memory regarding your achievements in the past couple of years. Demonstration of the desired behaviors may be proven in many ways. Use examples from past internships, classes, activities, team involvements, community service, and work experience. In addition, you may use examples of which you may be especially proud such as running a marathon, running for student body president, climbing half of the high peaks in the Rockies, biking across the country, etc. Sample Behavioral Interview Questions These are often difficult questions to answer without preparation. Use a sheet of paper to jot down examples of stories in your past that you would use to answer these questions. Careful preparation is the key to an effective behavioral interview. Describe a situation in which you were able to use persuasion successfully to convince someone to see things your way. Give me a specific example of a time when you used good judgment and logic in solving a problem. Describe a time on any job that you held in which you were faced with problems or stresses that tested your coping skills. Give an example of a time in which you had to be relatively quick in coming to a decision.
